South Coast: Glacier hike, waterfalls & Skyr factory tour
Iceland isn´t only trolls and elves. It is also volcanoes, glaciers and waterfalls. South Coast is the home of glaciers and volcanoes. Some of Icelands most spectacular waterfalls are located on the South Coast which run from the glaciers located there. Europe largest glacier lies on the South Coast along with many many others. On this Reykjavik Outventure tour you get to walk on one of the glaciers which lies on Icelands most powerful volcano.
Reykjavik Outventure is a small family owned operator with huge heart which creates high quality experiences for tourists. We specialise in small group tours with personal experience, where the guests get to taste things and visit places they would usually not do except with a local guide. Reykjavik Outventure’s team consists of experienced local guides who are here to make your days the best possible.

The tour starts with a pickup from Reykjavik at your hotel, guesthouse or closest bus stop. You can also be picked up from your accommodation on the South Coast route. Pickup is between 08:30 and 09:00. This will be a long day so it is better to start it early.
First stop is Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This is the waterfall running from Eyjafjallajökull, the famous volcano that erupted in 2010. You better learn the word because this is the passcode to get back into the bus J
Skógafoss waterfall is just a 20 minutes drive from this one. Skógafoss is one of Iceland most spectacular waterfalls. You have the chance to see it from 2 angles. Walk right up to it and see the water run down right in front of you, or walk on top of it and see the water run down from above.
Right next to the waterfall is the glacier you will be walking on. Solheimajokull is an outlet glacier from Myrdalsjokull. Underneat this glacier is Icelands most powerful volcano, Katla. Katla erupted last time 101 year ago and we are waiting for her to erupt again. Glacier hike is probably one of the coolest thing you will ever do. It is important to do it with an experienced guide that knows all the trails and cracks.
On top of the glacier you will get some hot chocolate and Icelandic pastry for refreshment.
Last stop before heading back is the one and only Black sand beach. This beach has been used in many films and shows. What makes it so special is probably everything you see around it. Glacier, islands, trolls in the ocean, basaltic cliffs, small caves and of course the black volcanic beach.
No, wait! Did I say that Black Sand Beach was your last stop? The Skyr factory is the last one! If you do not know what Skyr is, then you will learn all about it on this tour. Skyr is what the Vikings survived on in Iceland during cold winters. If it wouldn’t have been for the Icelandic Skyr, then we would not have survived the cold winters. You get a dinner there along with guided tour around the factory with tasting of the Skyr and dinner.
What to wear? This is Iceland! Always be prepared for rain. Bring rain gear and bring extra pair of socks on the tours. Also bring cap and gloves. In winter bring really warm clothes. For this tour in winter I recommend having thermal underclothes along with hiking boots, cap and gloves. You can also rent hiking boots and rain gear. Just choose it under extra when making the booking.
Glacier gear: We provide belt, helmet, axe and crampons. That´s the glacier gear you need to have.
